RCIC - In accordance with the Diocese of Tyler – Rite of Christian Initiation for Children of Catechetical Age – (English and Spanish) The Rite of Christian Initiation for Children is intended for children, not baptized as infants, who have attained the use of reason and are of catechetical age (have completed 7 years of age to age 18 years). They seek Christian initiation either at the direction of their parents or guardians or, with parental permission, on their own initiative (Section FIB, PG F-4, Pastoral Manual).
Only children who meet the following stipulations will be admitted to the RCIC class:
They are above the age of 7 and have never been baptized, or
They are above the age of 7 and have been baptized in another faith.
Registration forms for RCIC English and Spanish classes will be completed and turned into the faith formation office before children are to attend classes. Children who qualify for RCIC will attend regular Faith Formation classes as part of their LIFE journey in addition to attending RCIC class. The RCIC process, because of the child’s age usually takes two years, and their initiation will take place at Easter Vigil (Section F19, Pg F-19, Pastoral Manual).
