Marriage is a practice common to all cultures in all ages. It is, therefore, a natural institution, something common to all mankind. At its most basic level, marriage is a union between a man and a woman for the purpose of procreation and mutual support, or love.
Marriage was elevated by Christ Himself, in His participation in the wedding at Cana (John 2:1-11), to be one of the seven sacraments.
The sacrament of marriage is a covenant between a man and a woman who form an intimate communion of life and love
¨This sacrament, seen as a sign of the love uniting Christ and the Church, establishes between the spouses a permanent and exclusive bond, sealed by God
¨A marriage between baptized persons, validly entered into and consummated, cannot be dissolved.
Matrimony makes holy the bond of Christian marriage and gives a special grace and strength to the man and woman who receive it.
